History & Film Legacy

Hotel El Dorado was built by Eddie Fowlie, the 'dedicated maniac' of director David Lean, for the filming of Lawrence of Arabia. The hotel preserves original furnishings and memorabilia used in that film and Dr. Zhivago. Guests walk through common areas where Omar Sharif once stayed and can still see the old telephone room with its old-style glamour.
